Red-crested pochard 

The red-crested pochard (Netta rufina) breeding habitat is lowland marshes and lakes in southern Europe and Central Asia, wintering in the Indian Subcontinent and Africa. It is somewhat migratory, and northern birds winter further south into north Africa.

Tufted Duck

The Tufted Duck ( Aythya fuligula) is a diving duck. The Tufted Duck breeds across temperate and northern Eurasia. These ducks are mostly migratory and winter in the milder south and west of Europe, southern Asia and all year in most of the United Kingdom.



Velvet Scoter

Velvet Scoter (Melanitta fusca) breed in Europe and northern parts of western Asia.

Pintail

The Pintail (Anas acuta) is widespread and breeds in the northern parts of Europe, Asia and North America. It is a typical migratory bird and is wintering south of its breeding distribution to the equator.


Merganser

The Merganser (Mergus merganser)  breeds in northern Europe from Iceland and Britain eastwards across Scandinavia and the Baltics, Central Asia east to Japan. The bird also breeds in the northernmost parts of North America.

Gadwall

The Gadwall (Anas strepera) breeds in Europe, Asia and Central America. A small population also breeds in Morocco in northwestern Africa. In Europe it breeds locally on the Iberian Peninsula, the UK, Iceland, Scandinavia, the Baltics, Central and Eastern Europe and south to the Middle East. From European Russia and the East, it has a more continuous distribution in a belt across central parts of Asia as far east as Northeast China and Primorje Region, but also locally in eastern Hokkaido in Japan and Kamchatka. In North America the breeding range extends from the St. Lawrence River, the Great Lakes, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Dakota, southern Kansas, and west to California, and along Canada's Pacific coast and the southern coastal areas of Alaska. The distribution area in eastern North America seems to increase. Most of the northern populations are migratory birds and the Palearctic population migrate south in winter to the Mediterranean, North and East Africa and as far south as Ethiopia and Eritrea, India, southern Japan and Southeast Asia. The North American population winters in coastal areas in Alaska, and south to Central America and east to Idaho, Kansas, Ohio, Virginia, and further south into Central America and the Bahamas in the Caribbean.

Northern Shoveler

The Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) nest in the northern regions of Europe and Asia, and across most of North America. The majority of the population are migratory birds.

Smew

Smew (Mergellus albellus) is a migratory bird that breeds in northern taiga belt in Scandinavia and northern Russia. It moves south for the winter and occurs locally in the Baltics, Central Europe, as far west as southern Britain, and east of Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, northern India, China, Japan and Korea.

Greater Scaup

Scaup (Aythya marila) is a migratory bird that breeds in the circumpolar arctic and subarctic regions in Iceland, Scandinavia, Baltic States, northern Asia and Alaska and Canada. They nest primarily in lakes and wetlands in the tundra and the northern boundary of the taiga, but also nest sparingly on the coast in brackish water, for example, the Baltic Sea.

Garganey

The Garganey (Anas querquedula) is a migratory bird that breeds locally throughout most of the Western Palearctic and winters in northern tropical areas of East and West Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia.


The Garganey lives of insects, crustaceans, molluscs, seeds and aquatic plants. Above all, the Garganey prefer animal food. The birds take their food directly from surface or shallow subsurface.

Mallard

The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is widely distributed across the Northern Hemisphere.
Mallard may occur as a breeding bird in almost any type of water at any time like small forest swamps, lakes, rivers, parks, in brackish and salt water.

Red-breasted Merganser

The Red-breasted Merganser (Mergus serrator) has a similar distribution as then common merganser which is a circumpolar distribution ranging from North America, South Greenland, northern Europe and Scandinavia, and eastwards throughout northern and central Asia.
