Red-backed Shrike

The Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio)  is migratory. The bird breeds in much of Europe, north to Scotland, Sweden and southern Finland. In Southern Europe it is missing in most of the Iberian Peninsula. Outside Europe the bird nests in western Siberia, the Urals to the Altai Mountains and the Near East, where the southern and eastern Anatolia to the north-western and northern Iran. Red-backed Shrike winters in eastern and southern Africa.

The lesser grey shrike (Lanius minor) breeds in South and Central Europe and western Asia in the summer and migrates to winter quarters in southern Africa.

The Great Grey Shrike (Lanius excubitor) has a circumpolar distribution in the northern hemisphere. In North America the Great Grey Shrike breeds in Alaska and Canada and winters in southern Canada and in northern and central United States.
